The Game Developer Conference (GDC) is the world’s largest and most influential event for developers who make the games we love. It is not only the place where developers, designers, and industry leaders unite to learn, network, and be inspired but also the ideal forum for sparking new trends that will define the future of gaming.

Now as we gear up for GDC 2025 (taking place 17 to 21 March), learn about Arm's GDC developer summit with leading gaming partners, including Epic Games, Godot, Tencent and Enduring Games to name a few, where we're excited to show what we have in store for game developers.

The latest developments with Arm Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR)

By rendering frames at lower resolutions and then upscaling them, Arm ASR helps prevent thermal throttling and ensures smoother and longer gameplay for users. Arm ASR is now available as an early-access plugin for Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, with more plugins expected to be announced in the near future.

At Arm’s GDC developer summit on March 18, we will be showcasing Arm ASR in action. The first will highlight the technical aspects of the solution, with our second demo showing the performance benefits of Arm ASR in action through our Mori demo.

Arm Performance Studio with Godot

Optimizing performance is essential when developing high-quality games and applications for mobile devices. Users increasingly demand high frame rates, smooth rendering without stutters, and extended battery life. The Arm Performance Studio (formerly Arm Mobile Studio) is a free suite of profiling tools that are designed to help optimize the performance of applications on devices equipped with Arm CPUs, Arm Immortalis GPUs, and Arm Mali GPUs.

At the Arm GDC developer summit, Ian Bolton, Staff Developer Relations Manager at Arm, and Clay John, Board Member of Godot Foundation who leads the rendering team, will explain how the performance of Godot was optimized with Arm Performance Studio. Moreover, Ellie Bramer, Senior Engineering Manager at Arm, will be providing more details about the latest Arm Performance Studio updates and how these support your game development.

Ray tracing

Ray tracing is a computer graphics technique that generates realistic lighting and shadows by simulating the paths that individual light rays take throughout a scene. This method enhances gaming experiences by offering more realistic and immersive visuals. However, the challenge with ray tracing lies in its significant consumption of power, energy, and area within the mobile system-on-chip (SoC).

At the Arm GDC developer summit, MediaTek will be presenting a lightning talk on mobile ray-traced shadows and reflections and how these can be effectively implemented with Vulkan Ray Query on mobile platforms. MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9400 System-on-Chip (SoC) features the latest Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which offers ray tracing performance improvements over the previous generation while maintaining the same level of accuracy in the transparency of gaming scenes.

Patrick Wang, Game Developer at Arm, will highlight the results using Unreal Engine's Lumen technology – which incorporates ray tracing techniques – on the Arm Immortalis GPU. This continues the work of Arm from the 2023 Steel Arms demo, which brought desktop-level Motion Blur, Bloom, and Depth of Field effects as well as Physically Based Rendering (PBR) to smartphones built on the Immortalis GPU.

AI and ML in mobile gaming

AI and Machine Learning (ML) in mobile gaming is transforming the overall gameplay experience by enabling autonomous behavior and natural interactions. Multiple ML agents can guide realistic character behavior, while large language models facilitate natural conversations with NPCs. Smaller language models, with one example being “Tiny Stories”, are also being used to create more interactive and engaging narratives. At the Arm GDC developer summit, we will be demonstrating these verbal interactions with AI-powered NPCs on mobile through a new demo and lightning talk hosted by Roberto Lopez Mendez, Director, Developer Advocacy at Arm.

Moreover, using AI and ML in the game development process is enabling developers to speed up content creation, deliver greater realism, and enhance gameplay while optimizing GPU performance and efficiency. Tencent will be talking Arm GDC developer summit attendees through a range of AI skills for game developers, including AI coaching through the Honor of Kings game.

What’s new in the latest Arm GPUs?

The latest Arm GPUs feature new graphics techniques that create more lifelike gaming experiences and high-quality gaming effects, while maintaining power efficiency. One mechanism that was introduced in Arm Immortalis-G925 is called fragment prepass, which removes the need for applications to do any object or primitive sorting and improves the efficiency of reducing overdraws when processing geometry workloads.

Peter Harris, Technical Director and Distinguished Engineer at Arm, and Tord Øygard, Principal GPU Architect at GPU, will take Arm GDC developer summit attendees through the features in Arm’s latest GPUs and why they matter to game developers, with a particular focus on fragment prepass.

What’s new with the Arm Developer Program?

Finally, at the Arm GDC developer summit, Gabriel Peterson, Senior ML Engineer and Developer Evangelist, and Avin Zarlez, Staff Software Engineer and Developer Evangelist, will be showcasing the latest learning paths from Arm Ambassadors who are part of the Arm Developer Program. There will also be an opportunity to meet with some of the Arm Ambassadors at the event and learn more about what they are working on, both inside and outside of the Arm Developer Program.
